(2)        whether her Department carries out checks against application forms to determine whether the error was made by her Department or the applicant; if not, why not; if so, how many of these applications have been the result of errors made by her Department?

NW1487E

REPLY:

(1)        A total of 36 438 applications were received for the rectification of errors in Identity Documents, since the beginning of the 2010/11 financial year.

(2)        Yes. The Department carries out checks by comparing an applicant’s original birth register with the application form to verify that the particulars on the application form correspond with the particulars on the National Population Register. Statistics on errors made by the Department are not available. It should, however, be noted that the majority of applications received are requests from applicants to rectify their personal particulars in the National Population Register.
